Yearly Skin Exam

A skin exam performed by a dermatology certified provider is often more detailed due to the rigorous training to become certified in Dermatology. Le Reve Aesthetics is specifically educated to care for and treat conditions that affect the skin, hair, and nails. And given that there are more than 3,000 known diseases that come under the practice of dermatology, anyone is at risk.

A Skin Exam Covers Your Entire Body

A skin exam is done to screen for skin cancer, but also to identify any unique changes to your skin that highlights other treatable health issues including acne, and disorders like eczema and psoriasis, and other hair, skin, and nail conditions.

A skin exam of your entire body requires that every inch possible of your skin be examined, not just visible skin areas the sun touches. This is due to the fact that skin cancer is not always found on the skin that got the most sun. And melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, does not need any sun or tanning bed use at all.

Prepare for your Skin Exam – Knowledge is Power!

To help you make the most of your appointment with our Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioner at Le Reve Aesthetics, please take note of the following tips so you know how to prepare for your routine full-body skin examination.

  • Remove all nail polish from fingernails and toenails
  • Make note of any new, changing, itching, bleeding, growths, or lesions
  • Know your family history
  • Share previous skin cancers, precancerous, or bad moles
  • Bring your complete list of any medications, including dosage that you currently take

Le Reve Aesthetics will consider all of your concerns in addition to performing a detailed check of your skin. If your provider sees anything suspicious, they will discuss the concerns with you and explain what the next steps will be, if any. Early detection of any condition is always important, so even something that looks normal to you might be something that warrants further examination.
